Youth soccer athletes increase RMH-LI awareness nationwide
NEW HYDE PARK, NY, April 16, 2012 – Jim Vogt, President and Founder of the Met Oval Foundation generously donated space on his youth soccer teams’ home and away uniforms, including their jerseys and warm-up tops to raise awareness for The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island (RMH-LI).

The Met Oval Foundation’s goal is to train youth soccer athletes for professional play. The RMH-LI logo will be present on uniforms worn by U-16 and U-18 soccer players in the United States Soccer Federation Youth League. The players will compete across the country, covering New York, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Boston, Connecticut, Florida and Texas. “My hope is that we can help spread the word about RMH-LI not only on a local level, but on a national level as well,” Vogt said. “Philanthropy is very important to me,” continued Vogt. “It is up to us to instill these values in our kids today, as they are our leaders of tomorrow.”

Met Oval’s youth teams have had substantial success with the help of their coaches, who work year-round to prepare them for professional play. They are scouted for the Olympics, World Cup teams, colleges and international club teams. Approximately 60 players will be wearing the logo during their travels.

“Our partnership with the Met Oval Foundation provides us with a unique opportunity to spread the word about our mission on a greater level,” said Matthew Campo, Executive Director of RMH-LI. “The exposure resulting from this partnership will help us continue to serve families of seriously ill children from all around the world.”

About The Met Oval Foundation:
Founded in 1925, the Metropolitan Oval is the oldest continuously used soccer-only facility in the United States. Metropolitan Oval provides a year-round “soccer-only” training facility in place with top quality playing surfaces, lighted field, and an all-weather field turf — an environment through which players at Met Oval can reach their full playing potential.
1999 SYL Season in Review:
The Inaugural Campaign
In 1999, USL added the final building block of its own structure in the launch of the Super Y-League, an ambitious concept of a national elite youth league that simultaneously supports the identification and development efforts of US Soccer. The season saw 22 teams competing in two age groups.

The Super Y-League conducted its first-ever National Finals in August in Stone Mountain, Georgia. The inaugural two-month season produced an elite group of four finalists in the U14 and U15 Boys age groups. The co-host Atlanta Fire and Central Jersey Riptide won the U14 and U15 titles, respectively, after each team went 3-0 in its round robin tournament.

The Riptide opened the tournament in convincing fashion, knocking off tournament favorite Southern California Youth Soccer Organization (SCYSO), an all-Hispanic team, 5-2 on the strength of two goals each from Elio DeFrancesco and Kyle Frankowski.

Central Jersey, a conglomerate group of top players, wrapped up the title with consecutive 3-0 victories against Brooklyn and co-host Stone Mountain, completing a near perfect season that saw only one draw in 15 matches. In the Final, DeFrancesco added another goal and Chris Leahey chipped in a goal and one assist on his way to being named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.

The Atlanta Fire, who qualified as co-host for the tournament, allowed only one goal in their three group victories. The Fire, consisting of 17 Olympic Development Players from Georgia, beat the all-star team from Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL), the Brooklyn Knights , 2-1 in the championship game. Thomas Charowski led Atlanta with three goals in the tournament, one in each game, while Kyle Helton and Johnathan Leathers each added two goals.

Brooklyn Knights forward Edson Elcock, the cousin of Columbus Crew defender Ansil Elcock, was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
